The Diary of V臎rka 碍辞丑苍辞惫谩

V臎rka 碍辞丑苍辞惫谩 was a young Czech girl who sadly lived the last of her life in fear. During this time, she kept a diary she wrote into, giving future readers into a glimpse into the life of Czechoslovakians under Nazism, similar to how Anne Frank kept and wrote in her diary. One of her most poignant thoughts were about whether Jews like her would ever see their stuff or return to their old lives again. It was in 2006 that her diary was published.

Liberation of 笔濒锄别艌, 膶esk茅 Bud臎jovice, and Karlovy Vary

Between May 7 and 8 in 1945, the Nazis surrendered to the Allied forces in 笔濒锄别艌, 膶esk茅 Bud臎jovice, and Karlovy Vary. It took weeks of fighting and many casualties to effectively force a surrender from the German High Command. It was through the collaboration of the Soviet and US forces that the liberation was able to take place. Much celebration, the day of and after, was abound.

The Central European nations of Czechia and Slovakia have a relatively short, yet important history with Eurovision. While Czechia鈥檚 the only of the two still competing, this 2025, their next entry is a Slovak named Adonxs, an accomplished artist of many skills.

St. George鈥檚 Basilica and the Benedictine Nuns

St. George鈥檚 Basilica, the second church built in the Prague Castle was adopted by Benedictine nuns. Because of their involvement and the location of the basilica, it provided the citizens of Prague a place to socialize and politically organize. The existence of this convent provided girls and women to participate in the religious and educational landscape of Bohemia.

Milan 艩迟别蹿谩苍颈办: Slovak Astronomer and Aviator

Many know the life and legacies of Tom谩拧 Masaryk and Edvard 叠别苍别拧, two Czechs who helped to found Czechoslovakia. However, there was a third person who played a very important role in the founding of the country: a Slovak named Milan 艩迟别蹿谩苍颈办. Before he participated in the founding of Czechoslovakia though, he was first an astronomer and aviator.

Casanova's time in Bohemia

Giacomo Girolamo Casanova, a man whose name has become synonymous with womanizing, spent his final years and composed a rich autobiography in Bohemia. His life began in Venice, Italy where he spent most of his childhood, including the discovery of romance, with the daughter of Gozzi. Due to the trouble Casanova ran into in Venice, he eventually settled in Prague, where he met Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Bo啪ena 贬补耻蝉别谤辞惫谩 (1914 - 2009)

Bo啪ena 贬补耻蝉别谤辞惫谩 was a lawyer turned CIA operative for the United States to help fight against Germany during the World War. She and her husband, Charles Lauwers, moved to the United States in 1941 after hearing news of the war, after which she enlisted, following her husband. In 1944, she participated in Operation 鈥淪auerkraut,鈥 where she鈥檇 spread rumors, provide fake orders, and pass around discouraging leaflets, all to spread propaganda among German soldiers. Her work was a success, being declassified after her death in 2009.

Charles IV: King of Bohemia and the "Romans"

Charles IV鈥檚 efforts helped to elevate the city of Prague to new heights, establishing it as the intellectual and cultural center of Central Europe. Yet, his reign was marked by political disagreements and failures to centralize the government. One major, yet brief, threat to Charles IV鈥檚 authority came from Louis IV, the excommunicated emperor Charles IV replaced. Another major aspect of Charles IV鈥檚 authority was the elevation of Prague as a major player on the world stage for centuries to come.
